Sarah and Nick first reached out to us to inquire about transforming Sarah’s family summer home into their wedding site and once we saw it, we understood what made it so special. These college sweethearts love nature- skiing, rock climbing, hiking…there is no adventure they won’t try and we thought it was great that they wanted to incorporate this into their wedding. Throughout our nine months of planning, Sarah and Nick traveled cross country in a transit van working, completing Sarah’s doctoral program, and exploring the natural beauty around them. We loved hearing about each location and how the skiing was when they signed on to planning meetings.
It was perfectly fitting that they chose to hold all wedding events outside with a rain contingency plan. The ceremony site was a focal point on the property, a large, historic oak tree (shout out to Sarah’s dad for sharing so much history and information with us about this beautiful tree). We also planned for cocktail hour to take place on the large stone patio before guests made their way into a clear top tent for the reception. The menu, created and customized by The Spread, was designed with seasonal and local ingredients and offered many delicious options for vegetarian and vegan guests. The floral elements embraced their love for natural foliage and Sarah’s favorite color, purple. Additional personal details included a welcome sign created by a friend who is a wood artist, table numbers honoring their connection to the mountains, and a dessert cookie bar created by Nick’s family.
During their wedding day setup the sky was not looking great, but the radar was still on our side. Shortly before the ceremony it began to drizzle and in a bold and brilliant turn of events, Sarah decided to forgo the rain plan and hold it outside. The downpour held off and guests remained comfortable and dry under a sea of clear umbrellas as Sarah processed in with her parents while her brother played the guitar. Not only does a rainy wedding day make for gorgeous photos, but in this case, the bride, groom, and their guest enjoyed a 40 foot slip and slide in the rain. This couple made the most of the rain and celebrated in a beautiful way. Congratulations to Dr. Sarah and Nick!
